Blending: from sounds to words
Start with three-letter words: sat, pin, hot, bus, red. Say each sound, then run them together.
What the phonics lessons cover
- Days 1 to 26: the letters A to Z, in small groups.
- Days 30 and 31: beginning sounds (Moon starts with M) and ending sounds (Cat ends with T).
- Days 32 and 33: the vowels A, E, I, O and U.
- Day 48: words with the same first sound.
- Day 49: two-letter sounds: sh, ch and th.
- Days 53 and 54: word families, -at and -an.
- Day 55: beginning blends.
- Day 56: long vowel sounds.
